Technology translation is the structured process of advancing promising scientific discoveries, technical capabilities, therapeutic concepts, research tools, and healthcare innovations toward validation and potential application.
NBIIC-HI supports this process by helping project teams assess development needs, strengthen translation frameworks, identify suitable collaborators, and connect with appropriate academic, clinical, technical, institutional, and innovation pathways.
NBIIC-HI does not view technology translation as a single-step process. Translation may involve multiple stages, including scientific validation, technical optimization, clinical relevance assessment, intellectual property considerations, partner identification, regulatory planning, and development of an appropriate application pathway.
The pathway for each project is determined by its scientific maturity, intended use, institutional context, available evidence, and development objectives.
Reviewing the scientific foundation, development stage, evidence base, unmet need, and potential application of a proposed technology or innovation.
Identifying appropriate technical, biological, preclinical, computational, clinical, or real-world validation requirements.
Connecting project teams with relevant laboratories, hospitals, research institutions, technical platforms, manufacturers, or innovation organizations.
Structuring development stages, milestones, responsibilities, required resources, and potential decision points.
Supporting preliminary consideration of intellectual property and potential translation pathways while referring legal, financial, licensing, and regulatory matters to appropriately qualified professionals and institutions.
Facilitating cross-border collaboration involving research validation, technology development, institutional cooperation, application assessment, or implementation opportunities.
Depending on the project, translation may lead to further research, collaborative validation, licensing, co-development, product development, clinical evaluation, or, where appropriate, the development of a dedicated innovation or venture initiative.
