Joint Laboratories

Building Long-Term Platforms for Collaborative Research and Translation

Joint laboratories and collaborative research platforms provide a structured foundation for sustained scientific cooperation, interdisciplinary research, talent development, grant collaboration, and technology translation.

NBIIC-HI supports the development of international collaborative platforms connecting universities, hospitals, research institutions, clinical teams, technical capabilities, and innovation partners through clearly defined institutional frameworks.

Joint laboratory collaboration

Purpose of Joint Laboratories

A joint laboratory is not limited to a physical laboratory or a single research project. It may serve as a long-term institutional platform for coordinating shared research priorities, collaborative projects, academic exchange, technical resources, talent development, international grants, and translational initiatives.

Depending on the participating institutions and collaborative objectives, a joint laboratory may include physical research facilities, shared technical capabilities, coordinated research programs, or a distributed international collaboration network. The structure of each platform is determined by the objectives, resources, responsibilities, governance arrangements, and institutional requirements of participating partners.

Collaboration Models

International Joint Laboratory

A long-term collaborative platform jointly developed by institutions in different countries to support shared research priorities, technical cooperation, and translational development.

Joint Research Centre

A thematic research platform coordinating collaborative projects, expert participation, grant development, and shared academic priorities.

Hospital–University Collaborative Platform

A framework connecting clinical needs, patient-oriented research, scientific investigation, and responsible translational development.

Thematic Translational Program

A structured program focused on a defined scientific or healthcare theme without necessarily requiring a permanent physical laboratory.
